Pat Sloan’s Mega FUN Book Tour

When Pat asked if I wanted to be part of her book tour, I took about 3 seconds to decide that the answer was “YES!” Who wouldn’t want to be part of the fun that surrounds Pat Sloan?

Then, when I actually set down and read the book, I was so glad I had agreed to participate. Teach Me to Machine Quilt is just amazing. Chock-full of tips, techniques and projects to have you quilting away right at home.

If you follow me, you know I am a total cat person so of course, I was immediately drawn to this project in the book:

It’s a perfect size to practice both your applique skills and your machine quilting skills. My friend, Dolores whipped up this version of the quilt:

You can order a kit to make this version of the kitty here.

Of course, I wanted to experiment with my own kitty but as usual, time got away from me. I did manage to draw out my own kitty with some help. Nora never met a project she didn’t want to be part of.

And, I picked out my background fabric. My kitty is made from my upcoming Dandy Days fabric line for Marcus Fabrics.

I’ll post a photo of the finished project when I get it pieced & quilted.

For now, be sure to go check out Pat’s blog & visit all the other designers who are part of this incredible event. On Tuesday, the line up includes:

Pat’s giving away tons of cool stuff so be sure to visit her & register for the prizes.

I’m giving away a box of Pat’s Aurifil thread to match her Sweet Life fabrics.

Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Vol. 14 Blog Tour

Each time I’ve seen a Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks magazine out on newsstands, I’ve dreamed of the day my name or block might be on the cover. Well, this time, the dream came true! I’m so excited to be part of Volume 14 and to have my name right there among all the other incredible folks who contributed to this issue.

When I thought about designing a block for the magazine, I knew I wanted to do something unusual, something not immediately recognizable as a classic block from the past.

I’ve always loved the “Peaky and Spike” triangle unit and decided to start there. I also really like pinwheels so I wanted to incorporate that in my block too.

Here’s my block featuring my Revved Up Retro fabrics.

By playing with the light and dark coloring of the skinny triangles, I gave this block potential for creating interesting secondary designs when it is set together. Here’s what a quilt made from the block would look like:

Of course, the look will change totally when you play with color. Here’s the block colored in a few of my upcoming Dandy Days prints:

See how that creates a totally different quilt?

As the name implies, there are 100 incredible block designs from designers you love in Volume 14. I’d love to give one away to you. Comment here and tell me what your favorite block is to be eligible for a chance to win. Entries close at  11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 20. I’ll email the winner for his/her address on Monday 11/21.

I’m also doing giveaways on Facebook & Instagram to promote the blog hop & the magazine. Be sure to follow me there to see how to have more chances to win more prizes!
