Fabric pull underway!

Hello friends,

I’ve been remiss in my blogging, but I’m back!

In less than two weeks, the fun I Love Home quiltalong will kick off. It’s hosted by my friend, Jacquelynne Steves. Go visit her site and download the fabric requirements & sign up to get the emails with the patterns.

I’ve been busy auditioning fabrics so I can make my first block tonight. Sometimes, picking just the right combination is the hardest part!

After much deliberation, here’s a sneak peek at my choices:

My purple Dandi-Lines print from Dandy Days along with 2 purples from A Shout, a Whisper, a Text.

Two prints from Tattooed, an Alison Glass green and my own Shout Swirly Pearl Girl in green.

Two more Alison prints & a periwinkle Tag UR It from Dandy Days.

And finally, 3 pinky-purples from Alison Glass collections.

Put them all together & they look like this:

I’m loving the group & can’t wait to make this quilt. Are you planning to sew along?

Here we are at winding down the Dandy Drive quiltalong. By now you know there are multiple ways to combine the blocks & create your own, magical, welcome summer quilt. Search the hashtag #dandydriveqal & you’ll find lots of ways folks have put the basic blocks together.

This week, to celebrate a successful QAL, I’m giving away Aurifil thread!

Dandy Drive Prize 5sq (1)

Do you want to win this fat quarter bundle? Read on for details.

We’re already at week 5 of our Dandy Drive quiltalong. This week, we’re focused on assembly.

Download your assembly instructions here.

This is where I should be inserting some fabulous photos of my quilt assembly. Quilt Market is in less than 2 weeks & I forgot to get assembly photos of the yellow version of the quilt & don’t have enough progress on my other version to show assembly.  Sad, but true, folks.

Instead, this week, we want to see what you’ve got done!

To enter, share a photo of any part of your quilt that you’ve assembled on Pat’s page and be entered to win a fat quarter bundle of my Color Crush plaids.

Block Tour Road Rally

Are you zooming along the internet highways and byways of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 15 Block Tour Road Rally?

I’m so excited to be part of this incredible group of designers. My name is even on the cover!

qm100b

So if you follow me on social media, then you know I love pinwheel blocks. So, when I started working on a design for this issue, I experimented with pinwheel variations.

Here’s my block:

QM100-MAXWELL

It uses my Dandy Days fabrics and several solids. One things I loved about the block as it evolved was how it could create additional, interesting designs when the blocks were set side by side. Here’s a whole quilt using the block:

100blockvol15qlt

The block works in lots of color combinations. Here’s a warm version using other prints from my Dandy Days line.

100blockvol15option2

This block has lots of pieces so my best tip is to press the seams open as you piece each unit. While I grew up with the “always press your seams to the dark fabric” guidance, I’ve learned that with lots of small pieces coming together in a block, pressing seams open is almost magical.

Be sure to visit the Quilty Pleasures blog to see all the other blocks & enter to win some great prizes.

I’m giving away a copy of the magazine to a lucky winner. I’m also trying out this new way to give away prizes.

2017 New Quilt Bloggers Hop

Hello! I’m so excited to be part of the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers event. I’ve been getting to know lots of other quilters and working to improve my blog over the last month. We have three fabulous hosts, each of who took responsibility for a group of us. My fearless leader is Yvonne, aka QuiltingJetGirl. I’ve stalked followed her on social media for ages so I was really excited to get a chance to work with her.

Our other hosts are Beth at Cooking Up Quilts and Leeane at She Can Quilt. Be sure you visit all the hosts and visit all of us new bloggers–there’s a chance to win some great prizes.

So, on to me . . .

Some readers might recognize my name from my years of traditional quilt design, books with a Civil War emphasis, and my long-running affiliation with McCall’s Quilting and Quick Quilts. Over the years, I’ve made more than 100 quilts in a variety of styles and fabrics.  I’m currently a fabric designer with Studio 37 Fabrics, a division of Marcus Fabrics. I’m an Aurifil thread designer, pattern designer, and author. This year, I ventured into designing acrylic templates and related patterns with Paper Pieces. Watch this blog for announcements about my new acrylics and some FREE patterns in the weeks leading up to Quilt Market.

One of my favorite original quilt designs is from way back in 2007. Comforts of Home appeared in McCall’s Quilting.  I still display it on my bed from time to time.

In recent years, I’ve revisited my early love affair with batiks and with bright colors. This quilt uses my River Rock batiks. You have seen this at your local quilt shop since it was a block of the month pattern.

river rock master

I also did a version of it in my bright Radiant Reflections batiks.

radiant_reflections

When I show these two quilts at trunk shows, people are always amazed it’s the exact same pattern and block placement with such different looks created by the fabrics.

One of my newest designs that debuted at QuiltCon and is officially available for purchase is this  . . .

a_shout_a_whisper_a_textactual

It’s my first design using my new fabric line:

shouttextlogo

This line is all about communication. I’ll be back next week to tell you more about several of the prints, what they mean, and the inspiration behind them. The line is shipping to shops starting May 1. In the coming days, I’ll be able to share some fun projects using these prints that some of my friends have been working on.

For now, you can find some of my patterns here.

For my fabrics, always check with your local quilt shop first. If you can’t find them locally, I’ll have fabrics available here.

As part of our blog hop, many of us are sharing blogging tips. My best tip: take advantage of the “draft” and “schedule” features on your blog. If you’re like most quilters juggling too many things at once, it’s easy to let blogging slip down the priority list. I’ve found that if I start drafts of any posts that have a definite due date, I can then work on them a little at a time as inspiration hits. And, it’s not nearly as overwhelming as tackling a big post the night before it’s due to go up.

Scheduling posts lets me work ahead when I have breaks in my schedule and then I don’t miss important events.

Dandy Drive Quiltalong, Part 4

Another week has flown by and it’s time to add some butterflies to our flower garden!

Download the pattern here.

You can have fun with the wings–will your butterflies be multi-colored or monochromatic? You’ll be using easy stitch-trim-flip construction techniques.

Then, because we want our butterflies floating and flying, we’ll turn them on point by surrounding them with triangles.

It’s truly that easy!

Another week means another prize opportunity. This week, we’re giving away a fat quarter bundle of my Dandy Days fabrics.

To enter, share a photo of one of your butterflies on Pat’s page.

Dandy Drive Quiltalong, Part 3

So many flowers are blooming in our Dandy Drive quiltalong. It’s fun to see your colors and combos. We have another fun giveaway this week so read on for details.

Now that we have flowers, it’s time to add stems.

Download the stem pattern here.

My best tip for success with the stem: When you’re sewing the HST units or the smaller units together, press your seams open.

There are quite a few pieces to the stem because I wanted easy sewing with no tricky angles or ruler gymnastics. Here’s a pic of the back of a stem:

Here’s a finished stem:

FullSizeRender (4)

That’s my Daylight Sayings Time print in lemon as the background for this block. It makes me smile every time I see it.

This week, if you share a photo of your flower with a stem, you’ll be entered to win a fat quarter bundle of Pat’s Sunday Drive batiks.
