Dandy Flowers Quilt Along

Are you ready for a fun, FREE quilt-along? Pat Sloan and I (and some other friends) have teamed up to bring you a fun event beginning April 7.

Over the last several months, I’ve been working on designs using my Dandy Days fabrics. The prints remind me of carefree, summer days and I wanted a quilt to capture that feeling.

Once I settled on a quilt design, I wanted to see how it looked in other fabrics—playing with colors and fabrics is one of my favorite parts of the quilt process so I started trying out other color combinations in Electric Quilt. During that time, I noticed that Pat Sloan’s fun line of bright florals and batiks, Sunday Drive, similarly called to mind lazy, sunny days and relaxing times. I tried those fabrics out in the design & they looked great too.

I wanted to share my idea with all of you, so, the idea for the Dandy Flowers quilt along was born.

Here’s a sneak peek at a couple of the blocks using Dandy Days.

You can see a sneak peek of a block using Pat’s Sunday Drive here.

The quiltalong will run from April 7 to May 12. The patterns will be FREE, and available for download every other week starting April 7 here on my blog. You can follow my blog using one of the sign up buttons on the right side bar or  sign up for my email list and receive reminders when patterns are posted. The quilt finishes at 75″ x 90″.

We’ve coordinated with Homestead Hearth to offer kits in 4 colorways if you want to make a version like Pat’s or Sarah’s. Order a kit now & it should arrive before the April 7 launch date. Be sure to add your backing and coordinating Aurifil thread kit from Sarah or Pat to make your sewing a breeze!

If you want to use your own fabrics, you can download a Yardage Chart and get organized.

Grab the button at the top of this post & share it with friends to show everyone you are quilting along with us.

Use the hashtag #DandyDriveQAL on your posts so we can find your blocks.

Some of my friends will be joining in, sharing their fabric choices and ideas for the blocks. Be sure to follow them for encouragement & to see what fabrics they pick.

To recap:

Patterns will be FREE and available only as a download from my blog.

Pat Sloan’s Mega FUN Book Tour

When Pat asked if I wanted to be part of her book tour, I took about 3 seconds to decide that the answer was “YES!” Who wouldn’t want to be part of the fun that surrounds Pat Sloan?

Then, when I actually set down and read the book, I was so glad I had agreed to participate. Teach Me to Machine Quilt is just amazing. Chock-full of tips, techniques and projects to have you quilting away right at home.

If you follow me, you know I am a total cat person so of course, I was immediately drawn to this project in the book:

It’s a perfect size to practice both your applique skills and your machine quilting skills. My friend, Dolores whipped up this version of the quilt:

You can order a kit to make this version of the kitty here.

Of course, I wanted to experiment with my own kitty but as usual, time got away from me. I did manage to draw out my own kitty with some help. Nora never met a project she didn’t want to be part of.

And, I picked out my background fabric. My kitty is made from my upcoming Dandy Days fabric line for Marcus Fabrics.

I’ll post a photo of the finished project when I get it pieced & quilted.

For now, be sure to go check out Pat’s blog & visit all the other designers who are part of this incredible event. On Tuesday, the line up includes:

Pat’s giving away tons of cool stuff so be sure to visit her & register for the prizes.

I’m giving away a box of Pat’s Aurifil thread to match her Sweet Life fabrics.

Enter to win by commenting on this post & telling me if you have a special “helper” that always helps with your sewing projects. You can receive additional entries by following me on Facebook and on Instagram and liking my posts about this blog tour on each of those forums.

Top of the Hill Celebration Giveaway

Welcome back, Splendid Quilters. Are you having the best year ever enjoying all the fun of the The Splendid Sampler?

I follow the online chatter & love seeing all of your progress. It’s hard to believe we’re already at the midpoint of our Splendid journey.

Just a note of encouragement: If you are behind, DON’T FEEL BAD. I’m behind too. So many good intentions, so many life interruptions. The halfway point is a great place to jump in and move forward.

One reason I’m not getting too much done the last couple of weeks  . . .

nora2Miss Nora has decided she absolutely must sleep on my keyboard any time I am trying to work on it. This is actually Nora being good, just partially limiting my access.

Note to self: When you upgrade your laptop, don’t buy another touch-screen monitor because your cat will discover she can reach out & touch the screen & totally disrupt whatever you are trying to do.

What’s a celebration without giveaways? Be sure to check out all my fellow designers participating in the celebration and sign up for their prizes. But before you do, make sure to get entered for all that I’m giving away.

Lots of prizes, lots of ways to win.

Entry 1: Comment here and tell me what your favorite color is. I’m working on my next fabric line now & I’m always interested to here what you want. I’m giving away two prizezs to those who comment here–a set of 5 of my patterns shown above or  my Revved Up Retro fat quarter bundle.

Entry 2: Follow me on Instagram and comment there on my Splendid post to let me know you’ve joined me. One of the commenters there will receive my Harvest Cozies fat quarter bundle.

Entry 3: Follow my design page on Facebook and comment there on my Splendid post to let me know you’ve joined me. One follower on Facebook will receive my complete 30 piece fat quarter set of Cozies flannels.

Entry 4: Tell your friends to follow me! I’m working to build followers this week. There are SO many of you wonderful, Splendid people out there. I know you can help me double my followers on one or more of these outlets this week. When that happens, I’ll put everyone into a drawing to receive the gorgeous Hometown Girl fat quarter bundle from our fearless leader, Pat.

Comment and/or follow me by the evening of August 8 to be entered.

Thanks for joining in the Splendid fun & stay tuned for more fun giveaways and freebies.

Hashtag Holidays

One of the crazy things about the fabric industry is the length of time between first putting together a fabric collection and seeing finished projects from the collection. From the length of the actual design process, to the manufacturing of the fabric, to construction of quilts and then finally writing patterns and waiting for publication, it’s often more than a full year between when the fabric idea first makes its way to paper or computer screen and the final quilt design appears in print.

When I finished up my Revved Up Retro fabrics for Marcus, one of my goals was to have a design featuring the fabrics in a Quiltmania publication. Their books and magazines are always some of my favorites. So, I submitted some designs. A while later, I got the fabulous news that Hashtag Holidays would be featured in this:

Simply Moderne, Issue 5. If you haven’t had a chance to thumb through a Simply Moderne, you are missing out. Always jammed full of contemporary quilts, profiles on designers, features on quilt shows and more, it’s fresh, exciting and always a source for ideas.

Here’s a peek at the back cover showing some of the projects inside. My quilt is the first quilt in the top left corner!

Here’s a look at the whole quilt:hashtag3

You can find the magazine at your local quilt shop or online at my favorite shop (wink wink).

If you’d like a kit to make your own quilt, you can order that too.
